Description:
  • Perennial
  • Strong smelling bushy perennial with hairy, heart-shaped, bright green, toothed leaves – can grow up to between 40cm and 1m.
  • Bears pink-purple funnel-like flowers that are arranged in dense whorls at the axils of the leaves.
  • Needs well-drained soil in sun or partial shade.
Culinary Uses:
  • None
Parts Used:
  • Dried aerial parts - herb should be gathered just as it begins to bloom.
  • Renew stocks of the dried herb annually.
Medicinal Uses. It is said that:
  • Unpleasant-tasting but excellent remedy for the settling of nausea and vomiting where the cause lies within the nervous system rather than in the stomach.
  • Can be used with safety in motion sickness where the nausea is triggered through the inner ear and the central nervous system.
  • Also of value in helping the vomiting of pregnancy or nausea and vomiting due to nervousness.
  • Stimulates the uterus and calms spasms - normalizes the menstrual function.
  • Can be combined with Meadowsweet, Peppermint and Chamomile.
  • Preparations and dosage:
  • Infusion:
  • Pour a cup of boiling water onto l-2 teaspoonfuls of dried herb/ 3 teaspoonfuls of fresh herb and leave to infuse for l0-l5 minutes.
  • This should be drunk three times a day or as needed.
  • Tincture:
  • Take l-2 ml of the tincture three times a day.
