Description:- Annual
- Earth Tones, also called Indian Corn is an ornamental variety of flour corn that has traditionally been grown by the Native Americans.
- It is an upright annual, 2.4-3m in height, bearing stalks with arching, pointed lanceolate leaves and male and female flowers that are borne separately on the same plant.
- It bears multi-colored ears of about 20-25cm in length.
- Each ear contains a rainbow of soft colors – pink, yellow, blue, purple, pale green, turquoise, etc. and takes about 85 – 95 days to mature.
- Soil pH requirements: 6.6 to 7.5 (neutral).
- Needs full sun.
Culinary Uses:- The multicolored ears are edible and can be ground into flour.
- Fresh leaves and husks are used for wrapping foods.
Parts Used:- Stigmas and styles of female flowers (corn silk) and fruits (ears).
Medicinal Uses. It is said that:- Corn silk is a sweet and cooling herb that is diuretic, lowers blood sugar levels, stimulates bile flow, and prevents formation of urinary stones.
Other Uses:- The attractive ear's main purpose is decorative and it can be used for decoration of tabletops and front doors.
- It can also be a fun garden project for children (of all ages).
- It can be used for feed for birds or other animals.
