- Asarina is one of the best long-blooming vines and native of Mexico and Central America.
- It is not related to traditional snapdragons, but the flowers have a similar appearance, and the common names of snapdragon vine, trailing snapdragon, and creeping snapdragon indicate just how much of a similarity there is.
- Asarina is a broadleaf semi-evergreen ornamental - excellent for vertical gardening, trellises, or hanging baskets due to their vining and trailing nature.
- Although it looks delicate and fragile – it is a strong growing vine that should be given a trellised pot, Arbor or fence to climb early in its growth.
- It is an unbeatable choice for the patio and has no trouble climbing a trellis and filling it with a waterfall of light green leaves and loads of pouty lipped snow-white blossoms on wiry stems from spring to autumn.
- Asarina is easy to care for as it sheds the spent flowers, no deadheading needed.
- Also, it is not particular about pH and virtually free from pests and disease.
- It prefers full sun to partial shade - partial shade in the afternoon would be ideal.
- Asarina is fairly drought tolerant, but it will grow best if it receives consistent watering.
- Pruning is typically not needed unless it is getting too large - the vine responds well to being cut back when needed.
- Asarina is not a good cut-flower.
